Q: Why does pressing ** on my phone not open or start Skype?
If you have not installed any VoIPVoice integration software then your phone will not communicate with the uConnect or Skype. Download the VoIPVoice integration software from the disk that came with the uConnect and upgrade to version 1.50 from this website under SUPPORT>DOWNLOADS>SOFTWARE.
Q:How do I dial a Skype contact from my normal phone?
Right click the VoIPvoice Integration icon in your System Tray and select Options, General. Ensure that ‘Use # button as dial’ is checked.Set the uConnect switch to USB /PSTN. To dial any Skype number, lift the handset, dial * * then follow the instructions below.
Using Voice Dialling
To use voice dialling, right click the VoIPvoice Integration icon in your System tray and select Options. In the Speech tab, at the bottom, check the Enable Speech Recognition box.
To make a call, press ** and a voice will prompt, ‘Who would you like to Skype?’ Say the name of the Skype contact you want to call, for example ‘David’. The call is automatically connected with a confirmation by voice for example, ‘Calling David’.
Other ways to dial Skype Contacts
Press ** to make a Skype call and then press * again. A voice prompts, ‘Press digit to select Skype contact.’ Press the corresponding letters that appear on the number keys of the telephone to dial the name of your Skype contact. For example, to call ‘David’, dial 32843. The software will read a list of matching contacts when you dial just 1 or 2 letters of the contact name, and then press #. Let the voice guide you the rest of the way.
If Speak Online Status is checked in the speech options, a voice prompt will tell you the online / offline status of the dialled contact as the call is being made.
Skype to Skype using Speed Dial
Ensure that you have associated speed dial numbers with your contacts. Dial ** and simply enter the speed dial number, followed by # to make a call.
Q:How do I dial a SkypeOut number using my normal phone?
Dial **, then ‘00’ followed by the country code, followed by the area code (excluding the first zero), followed by the phone number and #.
Q:Skype opens on the HISTORY LIST instead of the CONTACTS LIST, why?
You will need to upgrade to version 1.50 of the VoIPVoice integration software from this website under SUPPORT>DOWNLOADS>SOFTWARE.
Q:Why does the VoIPVoice icon show "VoIPVoice:Connected" "Skype:Disconnected"?
The first time you sign into Skype with the latest version of the VoIPvoice application running, you must authorise the connection access. A window should have appeared stating "Another program wants to use Skype". If you did not select "Allow this program to use Skype" or the window did not appear then you will need to do the following. Open Skype and click TOOLS>OPTIONS>PRIVACY>MANAGE OTHER PROGRAMS ACCESS TO SKYPE>Click on Skype Client.exe and then the CHANGE button and make sure you select "Allow this program to use Skype" and click OK.
Q:Why is CLIP not displayed on my phone?
You would need to check to see if the phone can display caller ID text (characters A- Z)? or can only show a calling number? If it can only show a number then there is no way that it can show the name of your Skype contact. Please check your phone.
Q:How do I dial a '+' sign when making international calls?
Pressing two zeros “00” is equivalent to entering + when dialling international numbers, or if you prefer press and hold the “0” button until the + appears.
Q:Why does my phone not ring for incoming calls?
See below (Why does the keypad of my phone not work?).
Q:Why does the keypad of my phone not work?
There could be several reasons for this:
If you have just installed the VoIPvoice USB Phone driver or the latest integration software try restarting your computer with the VoIPvoice USB phone attached to your computers USB port.
Make sure there are no device conflicts in your computers Device Manager.
Both the VoIPvoice Integration and Skype icons should be green on the SysTray. If the VoIPvoice Integration icon is orange please open Skype and click TOOLS>OPTIONS>PRIVACY>MANAGE OTHER PROGRAMS ACCESS TO SKYPE>Click on Skype Client.exe and then the CHANGE button and make sure you select "Allow this program to use Skype" and click OK.
Q: I am unable to play music through my PC speakers, why?
When the VoIPvoice phone installs on the PC, it is automatically selected by Windows to be the new default audio device. The effect experienced by the user is that all sounds played by the PC such as Music, Windows sounds, Games sounds etc. will play through the phone and not the speakers. To make these sounds play through the PC speakers as before, some settings in the Windows Control Panel need to be changed.
Windows XP Users
Click START > CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES > AUDIO TAB >You will notice that VoIPvoice USB Phone is selected as the Default device for both Sound Playback and Sound recording. Using the dropdown arrows, select the soundcard to be the default device for both Sound playback and Sound recording and then click OK.Exit Control Panel.
Windows 2000 Users
Click START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA>AUDIO TAB>You will notice that USB Audio Device is selected as the Preferred Device for both Sound Playback and Sound Recording. Using the dropdown arrows select the soundcard to be the default device for both Sound Playback and Sound Recording and then click OK. Exit Control Panel.

Q: Are VoIPVoice USB phones fully USB compliant?
Yes, our VoIPvoice USB phones are USB1.1 compliant and have passed USB certification.
Q:What audio sampling rates are supported?
VoIPvoice USB phones support a wide range of audio sampling and playback rates from 8KHz to 44.1KHz with 8, 16 and 24-bit resolution.
Q:Are VoIPvoice USB phones full or half duplex?
All VoIPvoice USB phone handsets are full duplex while VoIPvoice USB speaker phone models are half duplex.
Q:I am experiencing echo using my VoIPvoice USB handset. How can I reduce it?
Most VoIP users that experience echo are those that are using traditional microphone and speakers for VoIP calls. All VoIPvoice products feature echo cancellation by design; this means that the phones as well as the USB headset cancel out echo by having the speaker and microphone some distance apart. Echo can be reduced by lowering the operating system’s microphone level to the second bar.
Q:Can I integrate a VoIPvoice USB phone into my own software application?
Yes. Please click on the link at the top of our website marked "Developer Zone" for further information.
Q:I am behind a firewall, what ports need to be open for VoIP calls?
This depends on what protocol you are using for VoIP conversations. Some of the more common protocols and ports are shown below. VoIP can use several different protocols: the most common two being H.323 and SIP. However few Firewalls or Networks are properly configured for this standard and thus cause problems when VoIP is used. Windows XP has a built in firewall that needs to be configured prior to using the VoIPVoice USB phone; this is done via your Browser ISP settings. Please note that PDT Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for any misuse as a result of opening any firewall port or ports. The following should be used as a guide only.
For H.323 (MS Netmeeting etc…)
- TCP port 1720 (H.225 call signalling for hosts)
- TCP ports 11000 to 65535 (H.245 capability exchange)
- UDP ports 16384 to 32767 RTP audio stream)
For H.323 (Callserve)
- UDP port 1719 (Callserve signalling)
- TCP port 1720 (Callserve signalling)
- UDP ports 5000 to 65535 (RTP audio stream)
For SIP
- UDP port 5060 (SIP signalling)
- TCP port 5060 (SIP signalling)
- UDP ports 16384 to 32767 (RTP audio stream
Q: I use NAT, will this cause problems?
Traditionally for VoIP to successfully work the IP addresses needs to appear in the VoIP data packets. This may however prove difficult but some VoIP service providers such as Skype and Go2Call have got round this problem.
Q:Why do I experience delay when using VoIP products?
Data travels across the Internet in packets. During VoIP calls, a caller’s voice is also teleported across the Internet in the same manner. Slow dial up connections can cause problems with packets either dropping out or getting lost, thus affecting VoIP call quality. It is advisable to use a broadband connection when making Internet calls as plays a significant factor in improving call quality. All VoIP products will produce slight delay during a call: the delay is caused by the number of HOPS the call requires. The HOPS are the number of jumps the call has to make from one server to another, so a call to Australia will probably produce a delay of 3 seconds.
